Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III is dead.
Gatekeepers News reports that Families of Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III have confirmed his death on Thursday.
Aquino who died after a prolonged illness had been undergoing dialysis for at least five months and had recently undergone heart surgery.
The Former Philippine President who died at 61, served as the country’s 15th president from 2010 to 2016, and later succeeded in office by the incumbent, Rodrigo Duterte.
The Aquino family in a statement on Thursday afternoon said the former president died “peacefully in his sleep” after suffering from renal disease secondary to diabetes at 6:30 am Manila time on Thursday (2230 GMT June 23).
The family, however, appreciated the supporters of Aquino as well as those who worked in his household during his final days.
The statement read further, “No words can express how broken our hearts are and how long it will take for us to accept the reality that he is gone.”
