Serena Williams has confirmed that she won’t compete in the forthcoming Olympic games.
Gatekeepers News reports that 23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams has announced she won’t be competing in the Tokyo Olympics which will commence on 23 July 2021.
Serena said, “I’m actually not on the Olympic list – not that I’m aware of. If so, then I shouldn’t be on it.”
“There’s a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision. I don’t feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry.”
Williams, 39, who now has a daughter, Olympia, has previously disclosed that she does not want to be separated from her daughter for the three weeks of the Olympics. It remains unclear if the organisers will allow athletes to bring young children to the Games.
She said, “I haven’t spent 24 hours without her, so that kind of answers the question itself,” Serena said.
Williams during the Australian Open, said, “I would not be able to go function without my 3-year-old around. I think I would be in a depression. We’ve been together every day of her life.”
