Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic have won their first match at Wimbledon 2021 while Stefanos Tsitsipas has been knocked out.
Gatekeepers News reports that the only grass-court Grand Slam of the year Wimbledon has returned after two years.
This year’s Wimbledon Championships will be the 134th edition of the tournament, the 127th staging of the Ladies’ Singles Championship event, the 53rd in the Open Era, and the third Grand Slam tournament of the year.
Novak Djokovic being the men’s singles defending champion has won his first round of the match by defeating Britain’s Jack Draper in four sets.
Although Djokovic lost the first set to get an early scare, he brushed past his opponents winning the next three sets to win the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the next round.
Similarly, Andy Murray has also won his first round in a three-set win and a set lost as he beats Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to advance to the second round.
Other winners at the Day 1 include former champion Garbine Muguruza, Poland’s Iga Swiatek, Sofia Kenin, American qualifier Denis Kudla, Spain’s Pedro Martinez, and Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus who emerged as the first winner of the tournament.
The reverse was the case for third-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas as she was eliminated in the first round after USA’s Frances Tiafoe defeated her in 4-6, 4-6, 3-6 straight sets.
Also, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has been knocked out of the first round by American Sloane Stephens, 6-3, 6-4.
