Dangote Pushes Nigeria To World's 3rd-Highest In Urea Capacity
Emergence of Dangote Fertiliser Limited has pushed Nigeria to become the world’s third-highest in Urea capacity.

Gatekeepers News reports that GlobalData disclosed while giving reports on Global Urea Capacity Additions by 2030.

It said global urea capacity is expected to increase from 222.96 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2020 to 305.92 mtpa in 2030, a suggested growth of 37 percent.

Gatekeepers News gathered that aside from the three million metric tonnes of Dangote Fertiliser plant, 88 planned and announced plants are scheduled to come online, predominantly in Asia and Africa, over the next five years.

Dangote Fertiliser Limited is projected to have an additional capacity of 11.58 million tpy by 2030.

“Major capacity additions will be from two planned plants Dangote Group Lekki Urea Plant 1 and Dangote Group Lekki Urea Plant 2 with a capacity of 1.50 million tpy each by 2030,” the report stated.

Dangote fertiliser plant has placed Nigeria in the third position among other countries, like Iran and India that will lead in global urea capacity growth by 2030.

The report classified Dangote Industries Limited, Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited and Fertiliser Corporation of India Limited as the top three companies globally in terms of planned capacity addition to global urea production by 2030.

Dangote Fertiliser Project is the largest Granulated Urea Fertiliser complex in the entire fertiliser industry history in the world, with an investment of $2.5 Billion capacity of three million tonnes Per Annum TPA.

The Dangote Fertiliser complex consists of 2 x 2,200 MTPD Ammonia Plants based on Halder Topsoe technology, 2 x 4,000 MTPD Melt Urea Plants based on Snamprogetti technology, and 2 x 4,000 MTPD Urea Granulation Plants based on Uhde Technology.

Gatekeepers News had reported that during the truck out of urea fertiliser earlier this month, the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote said Nigeria has the potential to export at least 3.5 million metric tonnes of urea to different parts of the world.

“Nigeria needs between 1 million metrics to 1.5 million metric tonnes of Urea to meet the local demand. So, we have the potentials to export at least three to four million metrics tonnes of Urea to different parts of the world.

“With this latest development, Nigeria has become one of the major producers of Urea in the world. This for me is a story, which no one would have believed would happen in Nigeria,” he had said.
