A court in Los Angeles has rejected singer Britney Spears’ request to remove her father James Spears from a guardianship agreement.
Gatekeepers News reports that the court rulings comes a week after the singer made a passionate call to end the “abusive” guardianship.
She had alleged that she was been medicated to control her behaviour, prohibited from making decisions about friendships or finances, and prevented have a birth control implant removed, despite wanting more children.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Los Angeles Superior Court ruling which was pronounced on Wednesday was in connection with a request filed in September by Spears’s attorney to add the estate management firm Bessemer Trust to the conservatorship and remove her father Jamie Spears.
“The conservator’s request to suspend James P. Spears immediately following the appointment of the Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of the estate is denied without prejudice,” Judge Brenda Penny said in court documents seen by CNN.
Although, the court decision did not take into account Spears’ statement from last week.
Spears’ father has urged the court to probe the music superstar’s allegations that she was medicated with lithium and was forced to act against her will.
The revelation that guardianship prevents her from removing a contraceptive IUD sparked outrage from fans and reproductive rights groups online.
Spears’ emotional speech via video link was a rare glimpse into her personal life after her attorney Samuel Ingham said in April that Spears wanted to address the court directly.
“I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years and that’s enough,” Spears said in the 20-minute statement.
