Thirty-two South Africans have died in the current unrest happening in the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that a provincial official in South Africa, says 22 people have died in the unrest raging in-country, adding to the earlier figure (10) recorded, bringing the death toll to 32 on Tuesday.
Premier Sihle Zikalala said the toll in KwaZulu-Natal province now stands at 26, a day after officials confirmed six deaths in Gauteng province.
Zikalala without specifying which parts of the province said, “These were people killed during stampedes as protesters ran riot.”
On Wednesday, July 8, Gatekeepers News reported that ex-president Jacob Zuma turned himself in to serve his 15-month jail term for snubbing a probe into the corruption that stained his nine years in power.
This has sparked unrest in the Southeastern KwaZulu-Natal which is his home region.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has afterward deployed troops to help police halt the violence and the looting.
However, the violence has so far been confined to the two most populous provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, which houses the economic hub of Johannesburg.
