President Muhammadu Buhari has laid the foundation for Kano – Kaduna standard gauge rail.
Gatekeepers News reports that President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the Kano–Abuja section of the Lagos–Kano railway modernisation project.
The President carried out the official groundbreaking of the $1.2bn 200km Kano-Kaduna Standard Gauge Rail (SGR) line at Zawaciki Railway Station in Kumbotso local government, Kano State.
The Kano-Kaduna Rail Project is expected to be delivered in 18 months, with trains stations at Kaduna, Jaji, Zaria, Kwakwa, Madobi, and Kano.
On Wednesday, the Presidential Spokesman, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, explained that the line connects Kano, passing through Zaria, and connects Abuja and Lagos via the modern railway.
Shehu noted that the Lagos–Kano rail project is part of the 25-year vision approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria for rail transportation in 2002, which contract was signed on October 30, 2002, with China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).
The President will also be visiting his home state, Katsina to commission the multi-billion naira Zobe water treatment plant and newly constructed Dutsinma–Tsaskiya road at Dutsinma Local Council of the state.
Meanwhile, the state’s police command has earlier announced the temporary closure of the Dutsinma–Kankara, Dutsinma–Tsaskiya, and other adjoining roads to the venue of the two events from 1.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
The command’s spokesperson, Gambo Isah, in a statement, charged motorists and other road users to use alternative roads.
