Tokyo Olympics 2020 which was rescheduled for 2021 has commenced with colourful fireworks.
Gatekeepers News reports that the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics on Friday officially began with an opening ceremony which displayed colourful fireworks and the brilliance of diverse cultures from several nations.
The opening ceremony which was officially declared open by the Emperor of Japan, Hironomiya Naruhito, took place on at an empty stadium in Tokyo.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony include French President, Emmanuel Macron, the first lady of the United States, Jill Biden among others.
Athletes on the occasion fanned out in the colours and costumes of their various countries.
Nigerian delegation were led by the country’s flagbearers, Aruna Quadri and Odunayo Adekuruoye, as they strode out in white caftan adorned with glinting green stripes.
Tokyo Olympics which was earlier postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic will hold till August 8, with 11,326 athletes competing in 339 events.
