All Progressive Congress (APC) is leading in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, as vote counting continues for the local government (LG) elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the APC has already won 17 chairmanship seats according to the results announced on Sunday.
Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGISIEC), Babatunde Osibodu announced the results at the commission’s head office in Abeokuta, the State’s capital.
He noted that pending results from Odeda, Ado-Odo/Ota and Abeokuta-South LGAs would be announced as soon as they were received from the collation centres.
Osibodu also stated that the results of the elections into all the 236 councillorship positions in the State would be made public when they were ready.
Gatekeepers News reports that the OGISIEC chairman who further assured that all the results would be announced today, Sunday, lamented the low turnout of voters for the LG elections in the State.
He also acknowledged that there were logistic challenges at the early stage of the exercise in most council areas.
