Tourist Helicopter Crashes Into Russian Lake

Tourist Helicopter, Mi-8 belonging to the Vityaz-Aero company has crashed into Russia’s far East lake.

Gatekeepers News reports that Russian Emergencies Ministry officials have confirmed that a tourist helicopter with 16 people on board has crashed and sank in the Kuril Lake on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Russian media while quoting the officials said thirteen tourists, including a child, and three crew were on board, adding that there were currently eight known survivors.

Meanwhile, the Emergencies Ministry stated that rescuers and divers are currently in the area to search for those still unaccounted for.

Reports revealed that the aircraft is lying at a depth of 100 metres (330 feet) in the lake.

The Emergencies Ministry added that preliminary information disclosed that the helicopter was travelling from the Nikolayevka village to the Kuril Lake and the Khodutka volcano when it crashed.

The medium twin-turbine helicopter – was conveying tourists from Moscow and St Petersburg.
