Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Liquid lost $97 million worth of digital coins to hackers on Thursday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Liquid said some of its digital currency wallets had been “compromised,” and that hackers were transferring the assets to four different wallets.
“We are currently investigating and will provide regular updates,” Liquid tweeted. “In the meantime deposits and withdrawals will be suspended.”
Liquid, however, did not give an estimate for the loss as it noted that it is regulated by Japan’s Financial Services Agency.
Gatekeepers News reports that this is the second major crypto heist to take place after the August 10 incident when hackers stole more than $600 million of digital tokens from Poly Network.
Although, the hackers, in unusual circumstances, made contact with the organisation and returned nearly all of the funds.
