‘The Lion King’ Musical To Resume Performances At Minskoff Theatre

Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ hit musical is set to resume performances at the Minskoff Theatre on September 14.

Gatekeepers News reports that after Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ hit musical went dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the performances are set to resume at the Minskoff Theatre on September 14.

The production which opened in 1997 at the New Amsterdam Theatre before moving to its current home at the Minskoff in 2006 is directed by Julie Taymor.

The stage adaptation of the animated film has earned 11 Tony Award nominations and won six, including Best Musical, featured music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and a book by Irene Mecchi and Roger Allers.

Also returning to the Broadway cast of The Lion King are Stephen Carlile as Scar, L. Steven Taylor as Mufasa, Bonita J. Hamilton as Shenzi, Cameron Pow as Zazu, Tshidi Manye as Rafiki, Adrienne Walker as Nala, Ben Jeffrey as Pumbaa, Fred Berman as Timon, James Brown-Orleans as Banzai, and Robb Sapp as Ed.

Meanwhile, Brandon A. McCall, who starred in the musical’s North American tour as Simba, steps into that role on Broadway.

New to the cast are Corey J. And Vince Ermita who will alternate as Young Simba, and Alayna Martus and Sydney Elise Russell, who will alternate as Young Nala.

Thompson, Bravita Threatt, Natalie Turner, Donna Michelle Vaughan, Lindsey Jackson, Nicholas Ward, Mduduzi Madela, Lisa Lewis, and Pia Hamilton.
