Paralympics: Omolayo Sets Record To Win Nigeria’s Second Gold

Bose Omolayo has won Team Nigeria’s second Gold at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.

Gatekeepers News reports that Omolayo won Nigeria’s second Gold in the women’s 79kg powerlifting event by lifting 141kg to set a record on Sunday.

The 32-year-old who had won gold in the Rio 2016 Paralympics, clinched another gold at the World Championships in Kazakhstan, three years later.

Ukraine’s Natalia Oliinyk won silver while China’s Vera Vera settled for bronze in the event.

Gatekeepers News earlier reported that Latifat Tijani won the women’s 45kg powerlifting event after a lift of 107kg. This means Omolayo’s gold is Team Nigeria’s second in the competition.

Team Nigeria with four medals (two gold and two bronze) is presently 24th on the medal table.

The captain of Team Nigeria, Lucy Ejike had earlier pushed and successfully lifted 132kg to win bronze on Saturday.

The fourth medal – bronze was won by Ibrahim Olaitan in the 67kg category.
