Federal High Court has retrained Governor Godwin Obaseki from imposing a compulsory vaccination on residents of the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Tuesday restrained the Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from proceeding with his widely-condemned move to bar residents of the State from places of worship and other public institutions unless they present themselves for compulsory vaccination.
The ruling was given in a suit filed by Charles Osaretin against the Edo Governor and five others.
The court while preventing the state government from enforcing the controversial order, granted the request for the status quo to be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
Earlier, religious groups and associations across the state had unanimously condemned the move of the state government.
Obaseki was accused of a brazen attempt to license worship in the state.
They also criticised what they considered a display of misplaced priorities on the part of the Governor who, according to them, still has no solution to problems of insecurity and unemployment that pose a greater and more immediate threat to residents.
Also, the Civil Society Organisations while condemning the move, described it as an act of government overreach and violation of the fundamental human rights of citizens.
