Spain have suffered their first World Cup qualifying defeat since 1993.

Gatekeepers News reports that Sweden has defeated Spain at the World Cup qualifier to end La Roja’s 66-game run.

Carlos Soler volleyed in a goal at the 4th minute to give the Spainard an early lead in Stockholm on his international debut.

12 few seconds after, Alexander Isak took advantage of a defensive mistake to slam in for the Swedish.

At 57th minute Viktor Claesson controlled Dejan Kulusevski’s pass before firing in a winner score from 12 yards out.

The last team to beat Spain in a World Cup qualifier were Sweden’s neighbours, Denmark, in March 1993 in Copenhagen.

Since then the Spaniards had won 52 World Cup qualifiers and drawn the other 14.

Thursday’s victory takes Sweden top of Group B with nine points from three games.

Luis Enrique’s side have seven points from four games and could be facing a play-off to secure a place at the 2022 World Cup with only the group winners qualifying automatically.
