I Am Not The Prime Minister Of Warri - Iyatsere Clarifies
Iyatsere of Warri, Chief Johnson Amatserunleghe, has clarified that he is not the ‘Traditional Prime Minister of Warri Kingdom.

Gatekeepers News reports that the clarification comes on the heels of reports that Amatserunleghe was elevated by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III during the Revalidation/Confirmation of Chieftaincy, to become the Senior Chief of Iwereland and replace the embattled Ayiri Emami, who hitherto held the title of ‘Ologbotsere’ of Warri kingdom during the time of late Ogiame Ikenwoli.

The reports, which appeared online in some newspapers and blogs, is still subject to verification prompting the Olu of Warri to summon Amatserunleghe to explain his intention to what was described as “desperation to grab a title not assigned to him”.

Sources close to the palace said it was shocking that Amatserunleghe was already addressed as “Deputy Olu” and “Prime Minister” in less than a month that Ogiame Atuwatse III was crowned.

Amatserunleghe, after being queried and criticised for the reports on the media, released a statement on Friday clarifying the purported news, which ostensibly is fake. In the press release sighed by him, the Iyatsere pledged his loyalty to the Olu of Warri.

The statement reads: ”It has come to my notice that, possibly out of innocent misconception, I have been referred to by some media outlets as the Prime Minister of Warri Kingdom. For the avoidance of doubt, Let me state clearly here that neither the office of Prime Minister nor Deputy Olu is known to Itsekiri customary law.

“I am sufficiently grounded in our culture and tradition to appreciate the imperative for us all, especially those of us privileged to be recognised as Chiefs, to stand ready at all times to speak up in defence of the peace, stability, and integrity of our beloved Kingdom.

“I hereby reiterate my absolute loyalty to Ogiame Atuwatse III and unqualified commitment to the cause of the progress of Warri Kingdom.

“Long live Ogiame Atuwatse III.

“Chief Johnson Amatserunleghe, JP The lyatsere of Warri Kingdom”.

Meanwhile, the embattled Ologbotsere, Ayirimi Emami, who was suspended over the battle for succession to the throne, is expected to appear before the royal father today, Saturday, September 4, 2021.
