WC Qualifier: Nigeria Overcome Cape Verde Scare

Nigeria have beaten Cape Verde 2-1 at their home in the ongoing World Cup qualifier campaign.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Super Eagles of Nigeria came from behind to defeat Cape Verde 2-1 for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Although Dylain Tavares gave the host a lead at the 19th minute, they were unable to secure victory at the end of the match.

Victor Osimhen of Super Eagles maximised a defensive mistake in the Cape Verde penalty box to score an equalising goal for Nigeria at the 28 minute.

Following this, Gernot Rohr’s men mounted more pressure on Cape Verde to score another goal but they were unable to achieve this at halftime.

In the second half, Super Eagles doubled their pressure on the host’s defence which eventually paid off.

Another defensive mistake at the 74th minute gave the visitors the leading goal.

Gatekeepers News earlier reported that the Super Eagles secured a three-point after defeating Liberia on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Tuesday’s victory, therefore, means Nigeria has six-point, placing them on top in their Group C table.

Asides this, the Super Eagles will be welcomed with a cash gift of N20million as earlier promised by the Chairman of Air Peace Airlines Allen Onyema.

Ultimately, Nigeria will advance to the third and final round if they stay as the winner of the group. The final round will determine the five Africa countries that will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

Nigeria will face Central African Republic in their next match which will hold in October.
