NBA-SPIDEL To Hold Webinar On Contradictory Ex-Parte Orders

Section of Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) of the Nigerian Bar Association will on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, hold a webinar on the contradictory ex-parte court orders.

Gatekeepers News reports that webinar which will start at about 4 pm, will x-ray contradictory exparte orders in political cases, according to a statement signed Chairman, NBA-SPIDEL, Monday O. Ubani.

Retired Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour of the Supreme Court will lead the discussion by x-raying the entire concept of the discourse which will be moderated by Professor Paul Ananaba SAN, the immediate former Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL.

Some of the topics to be discussed include the resurgence of conflicting exparte orders; forum shopping especially outside jurisdiction; the legal implications of such orders on the issue of fundamental and constitutional right of fair hearing; political, systemic Implications on the polity.

Others are Consequences for legal practitioners who file such; processes or urge for such orders/ethical issues; consequences for the judges who dish out such questionable orders /prescribed statutory penalties; historical perspectives to this strange recurrence in our polity and many more.

His Excellency, Alakurin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN; former NBA President, Mr J.B. Daudu SAN, former President of NBA; Chief Lateef Fagbemi SAN; and Mrs Justina Anayo Offiah SAN are expected to be in attendance.

The statement noted that: “Our main speaker will give an overview of the above topic while each Panelist who is already assigned the sub-topics will handle them from their various rich perspectives to the delight of the anticipated wide audience that will include the Legal Community(Bench and Bar, Law Teachers, Law Students), Politicians and the Media Community.”

Gatekeepers News reports that the President of the NBA, Olumide Akpata is the Special Guest of Honour in the program.

Akpata “shall be made to express his feelings from the leadership of the Bar’s perspective on the ugly trend which deserves immediate reversal if the legal profession intends to retain the confidence of the exasperated members of the public.”
