Gatekeepers News reports that Konan Banny, 78, breathed his last in a Paris hospital on Friday after he contracted COVID-19, according to his close aides.
Reacting to his demise, Guillaume Soro, another former prime minister who is now in exile, said: “He changed my perception of Ivorian politics and of some of its actors.”
The deceased was a member of the Ivoirian Democratic Party (PDCI) and French-educated banker. He became Prime Minister in December 2005 under a UN resolution and served until April 2007.
He was in 2011 appointed to head a Commission for Dialogue, Truth and Reconciliation after an electoral crisis left 3,000 people dead.
Konan Banny had previously held the post of governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).
He contested for President, unsuccessfully, in 2015 against current incumbent Alassane Ouattara.
