Group Condemns Killing Of CSP Kazeem Abonde

A civil society organization, Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has condemned the killing of CSP Kazeem Abonde.

Gatekeepers News reports that Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) says the killing of CSP Kazeem Abonde of the Lagos State police command is an assault on the Sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

CSER in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Nelson Ekujumi on Saturday, September 24, 2021, condemned the killing of Abonde, injuring of other police officers, and the destruction of a police patrol van by criminals while on lawful duty at Ajao estate on Thursday, September 23, 2021.

The Group said, “it is deeply saddened and horrified by the ugly development which is an assault on the sovereignty of the Nigeria state by criminals who must be apprehended and brought to justice as quickly as possible”.

CSER while demanding justice on the matter, stressed that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stated that “no one, whether civilians or security agencies have a right to extra-judicially terminate human life whether of security agents or civilians because all lives matter.”

Ekujumi also expressed his organisation’s disappointment with “the unprofessional conduct of the men and officers of the joint operations enforcement team for abandoning its commander to be killed horrendously in the discharge of lawful duty, which smacks of incompetence, dereliction of duty and culpability for murder.”

CSER further said, “As we grieve over this unfortunate assault on the Nigeria state which this killing and attack symbolizes, we call on the police authorities to ensure that its investigation of this act of criminality extends to all the officers and men who participated in the joint operation”.

The Group, therefore, condoled with the immediate and extended family of the deceased, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria over the unfortunate assault on its sovereignty which is unacceptable and condemnable, and also prayed that God grant late CSP Kazeem Abonde eternal rest.
