Former Nigerian International footballer and retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sunny Oyarekhua is dead.
Gatekeepers News reports that the ex-International footballer ACP Sunny Oyarekhua (rtd) passed away on Monday night after suffering from prostrate cancer.
A family source who disclosed this to Gatekeepers News said he will be buried in Lagos, today (Tuesday, October 4, 2021).
ACP Sunny Oyarekhua (rtd) was a prominent member of the Green Eagles from 1971-75 and top goal scorer at the 1973 All-African Games in which the Green Eagles won the Gold medal for the Football event.
He played club football for Benin Amateur Football Association (BAFA) and Police Machine Team.
The ex-Nigerian International also played for the Midwest X1 including the memorable game against Santos FC complete with Pele, Edu, Maria, and Gilmar at the Ogbe Stadium in 1969.
Oyarekhua who returned to his primary constituency, the Police Force after his football career, rose to the position of an Assistant Commissioner of Police before retirement.
