APGA says the defection of Anambra State Deputy Governor to the APC is of no consequence.

Gatekeepers News reports that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has described the defection of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as having ‘no consequence’ on the party’s fortunes.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Tex Okechukwu.

Okechukwu said the defection of the Deputy Governor was long expected since he had been bearing a grudge for failing to secure the APGA governorship ticket for the November 6th election.

H added that the party was of the view that the exit of the Deputy Governor, without formal notification to the party or his principal, was ill-timed and ill-advised because the governor had always treated him with respect, love and consideration.

He explained that APGA frowned upon the desperation being exhibited by the opposition APC in the build-up to the November 6 Anambra State Governorship Election, calling on all members of the party to remain united to ensure that APGA won the election with wider margins.

The statement read in part, “The Deputy Governor had thought that the Governor and the party were going to hand over the governorship ticket of the party in the last primary to him on a platter.

“When that didn’t happen, he started behaving abnormally, even to the point of insubordination and dereliction of duties.”

Gatekeepers News had earlier reported that Okeke met with President Muhammadu Buhari today at the Presidential Villa.

Okeke who is now a member of APC defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Present to welcome the Deputy Governor included, APC Caretaker Committee Chairman and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Okeke first served as Anambra State Commissioner for Economic Planning, and again as Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Transport in the administration of Governor Peter Obi.
