Ex-Agric Minister Abba Ruma Is Dead

Abba Sayyadi Ruma, a former Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, under the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua administration, is dead.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ruma died in a London Hospital on Wednesday. The cause of his death could not be immediately ascertained. He was aged 59.

The deceased was also appointed Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Education in 2005 under Obiageli Ezekwesili, and served briefly as a Federal Minister of Education in 2007 when Ezekwesili took up a world bank job.

He was Chairman of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, with Headquarters in Rome, Italy, and was also a Partner Minister of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

Ruma is survived by two wives and nine children.
