Remembrance Sunday: Prince Charles Lays Wreath For Queen
Prince Charles has laid a wreath on behalf of the Queen to commemorate Remembrance Sunday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the United Kingdom has fallen silent as it remembers the lost souls in past conflicts.
Remembrance Sunday is a Sunday set aside to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
The Queen, who lived through World War Two and is head of the armed forces, announced this morning “with great regret” not to attend the service at the Cenotaph, adding that she was “disappointed” to miss the event
This comes after the monarch sprained her back.
A national two-minute silence which held at 11:00 GMT took place at war memorials across the country.
The events saw the return of pre-pandemic numbers as hundreds of servicemen and women and nearly 10,000 veterans were sighted marching and lining up around the Cenotaph and were watched by large crowds.
Last year, only limited numbers took part in the National Service of Remembrance in Whitehall because of coronavirus measures.
The Prince of Wales laid a wreath on behalf of the Queen at the Cenotaph as he has done since 2017.
The memorial was also attended by the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke, and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl, and Countess of Wessex, and The Princess Royal.
Also in attendance were senior politicians including Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer who laid wreaths.
Johnson said it was a moment to “come together to remember those who sacrificed everything in service of our country”.
Starmer on the other hand said it was “a time for us all to stop, reflect and remember those millions of people from Britain and the Commonwealth who have kept us safe through their service and sacrifice.”
