8 Dead As Search Continues For Over 200 Passengers Of Niger Boat Mishap

Seven children have lost their lives in a boat capsize.

Gatekeepers News reports that 7 young girls have lost their lives in a boat mishap in Jigawa State, Northern Nigeria.

The girls were on a voyage to cross a river on their way home from a Maulud celebration at Gasanya town in the State.

Although the boat was conveying 12 persons when it capsized between Auyo and Kafin Hausa Local Government Areas, 7 girls died and the other 5 escaped death.

A source said, ”They were on the way, going back to their hometown of Gafasa in Kafin Hausa LGA from Gasanya in Auyo LGA.”

One of the bereaved parents, Mikail Jibril said the 7 girls were between the ages of 11 and 12.

Gafasa village head, Adamu Abdullahi, said the girls have been laid to rest.

In May 2021, over 100 persons died in similar circumstances of a boat capsize, near the town of Warah in Kebbi state, Northwest Nigeria.
