UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has taken his booster shot amidst Omicron wave.
Gatekeepers News reports that Boris Johnson has received his COVID-19 booster shot as the nation is ‘building ever higher the wall of protection’ against the Omicron variant.
The Prime Minister after taking his jab on Thursday said the “most important thing you can do under all circumstances is to get your booster when you are eligible.”
Although ministers are still unable to say when under-40s will be able to book for their booster shot, Johnson urged people to get the jab when they are called forward to do so.
The 57-year-old said 18.6million boosters have now been administered and insisted the doses are the UK’s best hope of fighting the new strain of the disease.
He said, “Whatever Omicron may or may not be able to do, it certainly will not negate the overall value of the boosters.”
Although the Prime Minister promised that all adults will be offered a third coronavirus vaccination by the end of January, ministers have still not published a detailed rollout plan setting out when people under 40 can book.
Science Minister George Freeman revealed that the UK was poised to start administering COVID-19 vaccines to primary school children as soon as Christmas amid fears of the looming Omicron wave.
Freeman said ministers have asked their independent Vaccine Advisers and Chief Scientists Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty to consider the move.
Meanwhile, Pfizer’s boss Dr Albert Bourla, has said annual COVID-19 vaccines are likely to be needed to tackle the disease in the years ahead.
Bourla noted that yearly vaccinations could boost population immunity, adding that the company is already working on a new jab for the Omicron variant.
He told the BBC: ‘Based on everything I have seen so far, I would say that annual vaccinations… are likely to be needed to maintain a very robust and very high level of protection.’
