Nigeria’s second Republic Senate President, Joseph Wayas is dead.

Gatekeepers News reports that Senator Wayas died in London on November 30th, 2021. The cause of his death was not disclosed at the time of filing this report.

Dr Joseph Wayas was President of the Nigerian Senate from 1979 to 1983 before the military struck on December 31st, 1983.

He was the first Senate President to act as President of Nigeria in 1983 following the absence of President Shehu Shagari and his Vice, Alex Ekwueme, who both travelled outside the country.

He acted for sixteen days. Dr Wayas is the second Senate President to come from the South-South. The first being Chief Dennis Osadebe from Asaba, Delta State, Southern Nigeria.

Dr Wayas was equally the first Senate President to be re-elected to the position in 1983. And the second is David Mark.
