Samuel Eto’o has been elected the new President of the Cameroon Football Association (FECAFOOT).
Gatekeepers News reports that Former international Samuel Eto’o has been elected as the new president of Cameroon FA on Saturday.
The four-time African Footballer of the Year is to run FECAFOOT for the next four years.
Eto’o defeated rival Seidou Mbombo Njoya, the fourth vice-president at the Confederation of African Football.
The election was initially between seven candidates, five of them, however, pulled out on the morning of the elections.
The 40-year-old has promised a wide range of reforms to thrive in the sport.
Afterward, Eto’o “We have to bring footballers to the centre of our policies. It is our role to ensure that those who play this discipline make a decent living out of it.”
The former Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea star also promised to construct at least 10 stadiums during his mandate.
Before the poll, Eto’o said, “I’ve spoken to the business community and we’re certain we’ll get the right investors who can accompany us in fulfilling our goals.”
He will now be President of Cameroon’s FA (FECAFOOT) when the country hosts the Africa Cup of Nations in January and February.
