Diego Maradona’s Younger Brother Hugo Is Dead

Diego Maradona’s younger brother, Hugo has died of a heart attack at the age of 52.

Gatekeepers News reports that the younger brother of the Argentine football legend suffered the fatal attack at his home in Naples around 11.50 am Tuesday.

Diego played at the peak of his career in Naples, while Hugo also played as a junior in the city.

His departure comes just 13 months after a cardiac arrest killed his elder brother – Diego, Argentina’s world cup hero and one of the greatest ever to play the game – who died in Argentina in November 2020 at the age of 60.

Hugo is survived by his wife, Paola Morra whom he married in 2016, and three children.

As the youngest of the Maradona brothers – Hugo was also a keen footballer and was signed as a junior for Napoli at age 18 in 1987.

However, unlike his brother, who played out his best years at the club and is revered in the city as something of a holy figure, Hugo was quickly loaned out to Ascoli.

On September 20, 1987, the two brothers (Diego and Hugo) played against each other with Diego’s Napoli coming out on top 2-1.

Hugo went further in his football career by playing in minor leagues in Spain, Austria, and Venezuela before ending his playing career in Japan in the late 1990s.

After that, he turned to coaching and was involved in several youth academies.

He was last publicly seen at the memorial service for his brother at the Maradona Stadium last month.
