Gatekeepers News reports that there was an emerging feeling on Monday night that talks between the player and the head coach at the training ground had gone well.
Lukaku was axed from the entire first-team squad for Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool for the interview he granted to Sky Sport Italia, which first aired last Thursday, in which he said he was unhappy under Tuchel and would like to return to Inter Milan in the near future.
Tuchel earlier confirmed that he would speak to Lukaku on Sunday, following this Belgium international was among the players who trained at Chelsea’s Cobham HQ on Monday.
There was a sense that those talks on Monday had been positive after Lukaku showed remorse for the interview, which should now lead to the player’s reintroduction into first-team squad inclusion for Wednesday’s clash against Tottenham.
Meanwhile, senior members of Chelsea’s hierarchy, including Director Marina Granovskaia, are understood to have been involved in internal discussions regarding the controversy, which is an indication of how seriously the matter has been treated.
Despite Lukaku’s prominence in the squad, some players feel the episode should not go formally unpunished by the club.
However, any disciplinary action the club take is likely to be backed by the Club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, who is understood to support the head coach’s stance.
