John William Jones, 68, was mauled to death by three ‘bulldog-type dogs’ while calling at the home of a young woman in a quiet Welsh town.

Gatekeepers News reports that the deceased who is said to have gone by his middle name of William was, on Monday, savaged by the animals outside a neat terraced home in Lampeter, West Wales.

William who had downs syndrome was covered in blood when the police rushed to the house in the market town. He was taken from the house in North Road, Lampeter, by ambulance but was pronounced dead later.

Officers disclosed that a 27-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

She has been released under investigation pending further police enquiries.

The animals, according to the Police, were believed to be ‘British bulldog types’ – not listed as a Dangerous Breed under law. The animals are due to be checked by specialist vets after being taken away from the house.

A spokesman said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at a property in Lampeter.

“Dyfed-Powys Police officers were called just after 5 pm, Monday, 10th January 2022, to a report that a man had been bitten by dogs resident within the household.

“Sadly, a man in his 60s passed away at the scene.”

The spokesman added: “The three dogs involved did not fall under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and have been removed from the property.”

A neighbour said the owner of the dogs “has lived here for about three and four years and is always out with her dogs.

“I think they are cross-bred and she is often walking them on the park and rugby club across the road.

“She always seemed very responsible with them although three dogs are not easy to handle for a young girl like that.

“She is a bit of a hippie type but very well-meaning and I know she did some fundraising for the local ambulance service. Lord only knows what went on in that house.

“But she was on the doorstep sobbing and crying later.”

Lampeter Deputy Mayor Helen Thomas said: “It is terrible tragedy. It has been a shock to us all in the community and the police are keeping us informed.”

It was gathered that a post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

An inquest into the death has been adjourned pending further inquiries by Ceredigion coroner Peter Brunton.
