Renowned Islamic scholar in Nigeria who is the National Chairman of Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Ash Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has described as undemocratic, the zoning arrangements in the nation’s electoral system, particularly the presidency.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ash Sheikh Sani Jingir said that the zoning arrangement is a denial to electorates’ right to vote for the candidate of their choice in a democratic dispensation.

Yahaya Jingir who was speaking in Bauchi on Sunday at the closing ceremony of two-day national preaching which drew Islamic preachers from across the states of the federation said that the national preaching is being conducted in states at three weeks’ intervals.

According to him, every registered voter has the right to vote for the candidate of his/her choice, hence zoning of a candidate to whichever region of the country means denying another voter from the opposition region the right to vote for his candidate.

While expressing delight with the massive turnout of Islamic faithful to the national preaching, the Islamic Scholar said that the orderly and peaceful manner followers conduct themselves during the event is worthy of emulation by any meaningful organization.

Yahaya Jingir, therefore, called on members of the Sunnah to continue to unite themselves especially at the venues of such preaching, as well as continued prayers for Nigerians to live in peace with one another and for the country to prosper in all its endeavours.
