Delta State Police Command is awaiting the result of an autopsy test on the corpse of a 19-month-old pupil who was reportedly flogged to death in a school in Asaba, Delta State Capital.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victim was a pupil of the Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School and was flogged by the proprietress’ 24-year-old son, Emeka Nwogbo on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
The toddler succumbed to the injuries while being treated in the hospital.
The school owner and her son have been arrested and were paraded by the Police on Monday.
Mohammad Ali, the state Commissioner of Police, while parading the suspect, explained that: “On February 10, the command received information on how the child was manhandled.
“The mother said she took the child to the school very healthy, but when she brought him back, she noticed that the child was sick with several marks of cane on his body.
“On Saturday, around 9.30am, the boy died at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba. Investigation is ongoing and we are waiting for the autopsy result.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu; his counterpart in Primary Education, Mr Chika Ossai; and Humanitarian and Support Services, Bridget Ayanfulu, have assured the public that the state government would follow the matter to the end.
