Russia-Ukraine War: Taliban Calls For Peaceful Resolution

The Taliban has called for peace in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine in a message on Friday on its official Twitter account.

Now known as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Gatekeepers News reports that that the Taliban expressed concern about the war which could lead to civilian casualties. The group called for dialogue between the warring nations and asked for the safety of Afghan nationals currently in Ukraine.

The Taliban is yet to be recognised by any country in the world since it took control of Afghanistan after years of American control.

‘The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and expresses concern about real possibility of civilian casualties,’ the statement said.

‘The Islamic Emirate calls for restraint by both parties. All sides need to desist from taking positions that could intensify violence.’

Taliban’s call has led to missives from Twitter users as the group famously killed more than 1,000 people in Afghanistan according to estimates in its successful bid to takeover control of the country. Its peaceful position on the ongoing war has left many surprised.

The group further said in the statement that; ‘The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, in line with its foreign policy of neutrality, calls on both sides of the conflict to resolve the crisis through dialogue and peaceful means.

‘The Islamic Emirate also calls on parties to the conflict to pay attention to safeguarding the lives of Afghan students and migrants in Ukraine.’

More than 300 Afghans had fled their country to Ukraine as the Taliban took control with thousands of others also seeking shelter in other countries.
