University of Lagos (UNILAG) has confirmed the promotion of Dr. Musa Obalola to full professorial cadre.
Gatekeepers News reports that UNILAG has promoted Dr Obalola to the cadre of a fully-established Professor in the area of Risk Management and Insurance at the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance in the Faculty of Management Sciences of the University.
The University Governing Council ratified Prof Obalola’s promotion on Thursday, 3rd of March, 2022, having fulfilled the requirements for the position.
Prof Obalola is an Associate Professor in the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance He is currently the Deputy Dean II, Student Affairs, a unit under the office of the Vice-Chancellor. He is also the Founding Director of Social Science Research Laboratories (SSRL), a unit set up under the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, to provide support services to faculties, staff, and students in the area of research planning and data analysis (quantitative and qualitative).
He has also served as the Deputy Director, in the Academic Planning Unit of the University where matters bordering on academic standards are determined, implemented, evaluated, and monitored.
He has a degree in M.Sc. Risk Management (Distinction), PhD Insurance Ethics (Leicester Castle Business School, De Montfort University, UK), M.Sc. Management, and B.Sc. Insurance (University of Lagos). Musa is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management, a member of Chartered Insurance Institute of London and Nigeria (CIIN), British Academy of Management (BAM), The Nigeria Academy of Management (TNAM), and Social Responsibility Research Networks (SRRNet.), UK.
With 23 years of experience in academics and research, his area of teaching and research interest broadly covers Research Methodology, Health Risk Behaviour, Risk Management, and Insurance, Corporate Governance, Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Organisational Justice, and Commitment.
He has contributed chapters in books, presented conference papers, and published in referred journals in these research areas. He also regularly reviews for a number of national and international journals in these subject areas.
Obalola is a recipient of the Leicester Castle Business School Best Student Performance on M.Sc. Risk Management Programme; Outstanding Author Contribution and Highly Commended Paper Awards at the Emerald Literati Award of Excellence in 2015 and 2013 respectively.
As part of his contribution to nation-building, Prof. Obalola in 2019, served as Returning Officer for Federal Constituency Election into the House of Representative for Ikorodu Local Government; Returning Officer for the Governorship Election in Ikorodu Local Government and Returning Officer for State Constituency Election into the Lagos House of Assembly for Ikorodu Local Government Constituency I & II respectively.
