Bamise’s Family Insists Arrested BRT Driver Must Produce Accomplices

Bamise’s Family Insists Arrested BRT Driver Must Produce Accomplices
Family of late Bamise Ayanwole, the 22-year-old fashion designer, who was found dead after boarding a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle in Lagos, has called on relevant authorities to ensure that the arrested driver of the bus, Nice Andrew Ominnikoron, produce his accomplices.

Gatekeepers News reports that the 47-year-old driver was arrested by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) at Ogun state after he fled Lagos.

He was made to appear in court and charged by the police on a four-count charge of murder, rape, and interference with the deceased’s corpse.

Family of the deceased insisted that Ominnikoron did not act alone and demanded that he reveal the identities of his accomplices.

“This is not just rape. It is murder. The man (Ominnikoron) is a tool. There must be something that gave him that confidence to use a government bus to perpetrate such an evil act. He must provide the cohorts,” Bamise’s brother, Pelumi, told City Round on Friday.

Pelumi, while expressing disappointment that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, did not pay a condolence visit on Thursday as planned, said the bereaved family had yet to be contacted by the Lagos Bus Services Limited.

“They (LBSL) can’t (visit us). They would be afraid of being lynched. If they want to do that, they have to come with the governor. There are people who are angry. We know what we have been doing to calm nerves,” he said.

Pelumi further urged the state government to investigate the operations of the company.

“It is not only about Bamise. It is about the future. It is about probing that service (LBSL), otherwise, this thing will continue. Why would the driver say that somebody hijacked the vehicle? Why did he not pick other people until he got to a particular place where he picked two guys and a lady? He needs to provide them. This is a murder case, not rape,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gatekeepers News on Friday reported that O.A Salawu who presided over the Yaba Magistrates’ Courton Friday, that Omininikoron, the BRT driver, be remanded for 30 days in Ikoyi custodial centre.

Also, another passenger has alleged that she was raped by the same BRT driver on November 25, 2021.
