Borno State Police Command on Friday paraded a 28-year-old man in possession of 126 Anti-aircraft ammunitions and other live ammunition in Maiduguri, the state capital
Gatekeepers News Reports that the Police say the suspect- Clement Asuk ‘M’ of Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State was arrested at the popular Kano Motor Park after boarding a vehicle heading to Markurdi in Benue State.
But the suspect has fingered one serving soldier with Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and his uncle who works in Chad as persons who handed over the ammunition to him with the intention of prosecuting communal fights between a community in Cross River and some suspected proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IBOP) from neighbouring Ebonyi State.
Other Items recovered by the Police include; 222 of 7.62mm of Life Ammunition, 517 of 7.62mm by 51 Live Ammunition, 7.62mm by 39 Live Ammunition,2 Empty Magazines of Ak47,4 Rpg Prepare Lent,1 Hand Groaned, Application Form of Nigeria Navy amongst others.
This was made known by the Commissioner of Police (CP)in Borno State Abdu Umar during a press conference in Maiduguri where he reeled out achievements of the Police from January to date.
“Credible Intelligence and Surveillance Team of the Command who were on Morning Patrol Intercepted the suspect and investigation have since commenced unravelling more information about the case,” Umar said.
While speaking to journalists, the suspected arms trafficker said his uncle whose name he gave as Joshua Akum who works as an engineer in Chad, came to Maiduguri and link up with the Soldier – Lance Corporal Samuel before the arms and ammunition were handed over to him.
“There had been continued communal clash between a community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State and a boundary community in Ebonyi State where the IPOB members have continued to kill our people. So my uncle called me on phone to come down to Maiduguri where I will be given ammunitions to take back the community in Cross River to defend our people.
“My Uncle and the Soldier gave me the ammunition and took me to a Motor park in a tricycle before I was arrested by the Police. I was meant to take the ammunitions to Markurdi before I will do a waybill to Cross River ” Asuk who is a graduate of Maritime Academy, Oron said.

The Borno Police boss also paraded other suspects who were arrested in different parts of the state for various offences.
“The Borno Command during the period under review is not unmindful of the security challenges bedevilling the State amongst which are, culpable homicide kidnappings, armed robbery and rape just to mention but a few. However, remarkable efforts were not spared in addressing the situation which culminates in the relative peace currently being enjoyed by law-abiding citizens in the State.
“Notwithstanding, having support from the Inspector General of Police IGP Alkali Baba Usman psc(+), NPM, fdc in terms of manpower and logistics as well as the unwavering assistance from the State Government, the Command took some decisive approaches in tackling these challenges which were all result-oriented that ushered in a high level of calmness in our communities and the state as a whole.

BRIEF OF THE CASE: On 24/03/2022 at about 1300hrs One Usman Haruna ‘M’ of Askira/Uba L.G.A of Borno State reported at Askira/Uba Division that one Zakariya Ya’u ‘M’ 46yrs old of the same address forcefully had a canal knowledge/sexual intercourse with one Wamdubu Bello ‘F’ 92yrs old of the same address. The case is under investigation.

BRIEF: On the 31/1/2022 at about 1100hrs, one Mohammed Modu ‘m’ of Bama town, reported at Konduga Police Station that, on the same date at about 1200hrs, one Bilkisu Ali A.K.A Ummi ‘f’ 22yrs of Konduga IDP Camp also a volunteer CJTF Konduga LGA, took his 3yrs old daughter named Hadiza Modu ‘f’ with intend to go and sell to one Madam Joy ‘f’ surname unknown ‘f’ of Abia State who is now at large. The victim was rescued at Damaturu, Yobe State unhurt by the Police. Case under investigation.

“BRIEF: On 20/3/2022 at about 0900hrs some suspected criminals conspired, broke into a motor vehicle (Toyota starlet) belonging to one Ibrahim Isa, a hunter at Fuma village, Azare, Hawul LGA and stole his pump-action gun with three cartridges when he locked it therein and was working on his farmland. That on 26/3/2022 at about 2300hrs, the suspects criminally conspired with two others at large and Derwent to the house of one Adamu Abdu at Tashan Alade of the same LGA, beat him up and attempted to kidnapped him after firing a shot using the pump action. Fortunately, the victim was not injured. That the hoodlums subsequently run away but were later traced and arrested by the police at Hawul when the case was reported to them. BRIEF: – On 19/03/2022 at about 1245hrs, a group of hoodlums from Mairi ward Maiduguri gang named “Mai Zuga group” armed with swords, sticks, and knives, attacked another group of hoodlums tagged “Yayafe” at Mairi area, engaged them in weapons fight, following a misunderstanding that ensued amongst them on 18/03/2022 at about 1700hrs, during a wedding cultural dance in the area, which resulted to burning of some benches by the Yayafe group belonging to Mai Zuga group, in reprisal, the Mai Zuga group decided to violently visit and attacked the Yayafe group, the hoodlums inflicted injuries on one another, on receipt of a distress call, Crack Operatives rushed to the scene and arrested five suspects. Two swords, three sticks and two knives were recovered from them. Hunt for other members of the two groups who fled on sighting teams is on top gear,” the Commissioner of Police said.
