Area Commander, ACP Aliko Dankoli of Area D Police Command headquarters in Mushin, Lagos State allegedly ordered the arrest and detention of a female Magistrate, who was said to have visited the Command on a routine check of illegally detained suspects in the cell and to give legal advice to the Police.
Gatekeepers News reports that reports that the Magistrate in question went to the Command with her team on Monday 30th May, 2022, for a routine check at the Command’s cell as was done in other Divisions and Commands across the State.
According to reports, ACP Dankoli ordered the arrest of the Magistrate over allegations that she went to check the suspects detained in the cell without his permission, even after being aware that his second in Command was aware of their visit.
The incident led to a mild drama following the argument that ensued between Dankoli and his second in command.
The matter was later resolved following the intervention of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi and the Magistrate regained her freedom after being humiliated at the Command.
The routine check was in line with the policy of the Lagos State Judiciary, which partners with the Police over the congestion of Police cells in the State.
