The Borno State Government on Thursday distributed food items and condiments to 6646 households of Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Gubio Camp in Maiduguri, the state Capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency,(SEMA ) Hajja Yabawa Kolo led the food distribution on behalf of the State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum.

The aim of the food support, according to Mrs Kolo, is to mitigate the shortfall in food supply by the World Food Programme (WFP)  Action Agains Hunger and other partners who are finding it difficult to sustain the food support intervention for a while now.

Handing over the food items to the beneficiaries at the Gubio Camp, Mrs Kolo said the state Government will not relent in providing succour to the needy across the state.

Mrs Kolo revealed that the donor agencies have been responsible for providing food support to Gubio Camp IDPs while the state government through SEMA provides condiments noting that the food support had ceased.

“The state government can not allow the IDPs to go to bed hungry, hence, the need to support the IDPs with not just condiments but we decided to add bags of grains this time.

“SEMA has continued to assist the Gubio Camp IDPs with food and other needs since the shortfall from our partners. The National Emergency Management Agency ( (NEMA) also supported us massively,” the SEMA boss said.

A total of 400 50kg of Maize, 400 25kg of Beans, 50 cartons of vegetable oil, and 50 cartons of star maggi seasoning were distributed amongst the beneficiaries.
