A prophesy that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) shall call off its strike on June 17 has gone wrong.
Gatekeepers News reports that a Pastor in a viral video had prophesied that the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) strike would be called off on the 17th of June.
At midnight on the 17th of June university teachers were still on strike with no solution yet in sight.
See the video of the prophesy below:
Background on the ASUU strike
On Monday, February 7, 2022, the union embarked on a lecture-free day in the universities across the country, to sensitise the university communities and the public on the failure of the government to honour an agreement the parties entered into in December 2020, which led to the suspension of the then 9-month prolonged strike.
ASUU embarked on strike action in March 2020, following its disagreement with the Federal Government over the funding of the universities and implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), which according to the Union, negates the autonomy policy for the universities, among other issues.
The Union called off its 9-month-old strike in December 2020 after the Federal Government agreed to some of its conditions which includes the deployment of University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) software for payment of its salaries and allowances.
Despite the signing of the MoA between ASUU and the government, the University teachers accused the government of failing to fulfil its side of the bargain and resorted to a one-month warning strike on February 14, 2022.
At the end of the warning strike, the Union extended the strike by two months.
On May 9, 2022, Gatekeepers News reported that ASUU rolled over its eight-week strike period by another 12 weeks.
These together sum up that students of public institutions across the country have been at home for over four months and still counting.
