IGP Deploys Additional Forces To Abuja

Enugu And 12 Other States Get New Commissioners Of Police

Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the deployment of additional forces to strategic areas in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

This is coming amid concerns over security breaches in some parts of the nation’s capital.

Adejobi said the IGP has also charged the Force Intelligence Bureau to ensure robust information gathering.

The Force PRO said, “We(the police) are not leaving any stone unturned to fortify the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.”

He, therefore, called on residents of the FCT to synergise with the police and other security agencies to forestall any breach of security in the nation’s capital.

On Monday, Gatekeepers News reported that terrorists attacked troops of the Presidential Guards Brigade along the Kubwa-Bwari area of the FCT, inflicting injury on at least three soldiers.

The gunmen were reportedly on their way to lay siege on the Nigerian Law School, Bwari when they came face to face with the troops.

The Spokesman of Guards Brigade’s 7 Battalion, Godfrey Abakpa, while confirming this on Tuesday, said, “No soldier was abducted; we only had three casualties and they were evacuated.”

In a related development, a leaked memo from the headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) revealed that two terrorist groups, the Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram, were planning to attack Lagos, Kaduna, Kogi, Katsina, and Zamfara states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

Although the NSCDC Spokesman, Shola Odumosu, when contacted said the memo did not originate from the security agencies.

However, a State Commandant, who spoke with the PUNCH confirmed the memo, adding that security officials had been directed to keep mum over it in order not to cause panic.

The commandant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, ‘’Yes, it is true that they (headquarters) issued a security alert to us that we should be careful and we should instruct our men to be watchful. We protect the critical infrastructure and places of worship.

“It is also important that we inform the people so they can be vigilant.”
