Rufai Oseni, a Nigerian broadcaster with Arise TV, has tendered an unreserved apology after being convicted for traffic offence in a Lagos court on Tuesday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Rufai was in the news recently after the faceoff he had with police officers trying to enforce the traffic law after he (Rufai) utilized the road designated for BRT buses.
Rufai had, in a trending video, threatened to report the officers to the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and also took to his Twitter handle to lament about his experience.
However, on Wednesday, Rufai who admitted to the police that he passed the BRT lane, an act which is against the law, apologised after he was fined N70,000.
Rufai, who read his pesonal message to apologise during The Morning Show on Arise TV, said: “As many of you know, in the last two days I have been in the news for the wrong reasons. This has resulted in needless distraction for my friends, family, members of the public and for all my colleagues here on Arise News Channel. I would therefore like to apologise to all parties over what transpired during the incident with the Police when I was stopped for driving on a bus lane. I cannont and dare not lay claims to knowing it all. Lessons have been learnt from this entire episode and this has been a most humbling experience for me.
“I would also like to use this opporutunity to express my gratitude to all those who have reached out to me in the last two days for their guidance and counseling. Thank you everyone, God bless you and please let’s continue to strive to make our country a better place for all of us.”
