Commonwealth Games: Genesis Wins Gold And Ofili Secures Nigeria’s 30th Medal

Nigeria’s Genesis Miesinnei Mercy has secured Nigeria’s 9th gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG).

Gatekeepers News reports that Genesis defeated Canada’s Parks Madison to clinch the gold medal in the women’s wrestling

She won the encounter 9-0 at the Coventry Arena on Saturday evening.

In a related development, Favour Ofili has clinched a silver medal in the women’s 200 meters race at the competition.

The 19-year-old sprinter, who became the third Nigerian athlete to feature in the women’s 200m final secured Nigeria’s 30th medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Ofili clocked 22.51 seconds to finish behind Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah at the Alexander Stadium.

Mary Onyali was the first Nigerian athlete to have competed in that division in 1994.

At the end of Day 9, Nigeria has now secured 9 gold, 8 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
