Billionaire business mogul, Elon Musk, tweeted his intention to buy English Premier League giants, Manchester United, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Musk’s tweet unsurprisingly generated reactions from thousands of football fans on social media.
He tweeted, “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur [you’re] welcome.”
However, a few hours after his original tweet, the Tesla CEO posted another tweet, saying he was joking about buying the struggling club. He added that he was not ready to acquire any sports team.
“No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams,” Musk said.
He further explained that if he was to buy any club at all, it would be the Manchester outfit because, according to him, they were his childhood favourite.
“Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid,” the billionaire added.
Manchester United currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table after a disastrous start to the season, which has seen the club lose their first two league matches of the season to Brighton and Brentford.
According to Forbes Magazine, Musk is currently worth around $270 billion, meaning that he could easily afford buying the Old Trafford outfit.
Recall that the Space X founder announced he was buying Twitter in April.
He, however, walked away from an agreed deal in July, citing Twitter’s lack of transparency.
Musk and the social media giant are currently in a legal battle.
