19-year-old Alcaraz Wins US Open To Become Youngest World No. 1

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has defeated his Norwegian counterpart, Casper Ruud to secure his first US Open title.

Gatekeepers News reports that Alcaraz beat Ruud in a four-set thriller 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(7-1), 6-3 to clinch the title at Flushing Meadows, New York on Sunday.

The victory made him the youngest ever world No 1 since Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2003.

The 19-year-old also became the first player since Andre Agassi — in the 2005 US Open — to reach the final after winning three straight five-set ties.

Alcaraz is the 57th Grand Slam men’s champion and 30th US Open men’s champion in the Open Era.

The Spaniard now has a 3-0 scoreline victory against Ruud.
