Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2022 Osun State governorship election, Rt. Hon. Lasun Suleiman Yusuf, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gatekeepers News reports that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State announced Lasun’s defection to the PDP on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the Party’s presidential campaign rally in Osogbo.
The rally is being attended by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; party’s national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, and the PDP Presidential Campaign Council chairman, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, among other chieftains.
Lasun was elected to the House of Representatives for a second time on the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) platform in March 2015.
He was elected the Deputy Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives by 203 members of the House of Representatives out of the 357 that participated in the in-house election. Yakubu Dogara was elected as the Speaker.
Lasun then decamped from the All Progressive Congress to the People’s Democratic Party on 15 September 2018.
In the July 16, 2022 election in Osun, he contested under the Labour Party for the number One office in the state.
The Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi campaigned for him during the election which he later polled 2,729 votes to become second runner up in the election.
