Christopher Robert Evans is an American actor best known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Superhero Franchise and Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Fantastic Four.
Early Life
Christopher Robert Evans was born on June 13, 1981, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in the nearby town of Sudbury. His mother, Lisa (née Capuano), is an artistic director at the Concord Youth Theater,and his father, Bob, is a dentist. His father is of Irish descent, while his mother is of half Irish and half Italian descent. His parents divorced in 1999.
Evans has two sisters, Carly and Shanna, and a brother, actor Scott Evans. He and his siblings were raised Catholic.Their uncle, Mike Capuano, represented Massachusetts’s 8th congressional district.
He enjoyed musical theater as a child, and attended acting camp. Before starting his senior year of high school, Evans spent the summer in New York City, and took classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Evans graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in 1999. He was a schoolmate of Jeremy Strong.
Career
Evans’ first credited appearance in his career was in “Biodiversity: Wild about Life!” (1997), a short educational video. Other early projects of his include modeling the character of “Tyler” in Hasbro’s “Mystery Date” board game. His acting career really started off when he was cast as a supporting character in the teen comedy-drama “Opposite Sex,” which aired during the summer of 2000. The show also featured actors like Milo Ventimiglia. Subsequently, he built up his acting repertoire with appearances in shows like “The Fugitive,” “Skin,” and “Boston Public.”
Between guest roles on TV shows, Evans appeared in a teen movie spoof, Not Another Teen Movie (2001), and the teen caper The Perfect Score (2004). He then appeared in the thriller Cellular (2004). The film established him as a plausible action star. In 2005, Evans appeared in his first superhero movie, playing the brash Johnny Storm/the Human Torch in the Marvel universe story Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).

In addition to pursuing his career as Captain America, Evans gave an electrifying performance as a drug-addicted lawyer in Puncture (2011), based on real events. He also won praise for his layered portrayal of a rebel leader in Bong Joon-Ho’s dystopian fable Snowpiercer (2013) and as the unconventional guardian of a math prodigy in Gifted (2017). Evans made his directorial debut with the romance Before We Go (2014), in which he also starred.
In 2018, Evans first appeared on Broadway, in a well-received performance as a veteran cop in Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero. He was later cast as the spoiled and obnoxious son of a deceased patriarch in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out (2019), a classic murder mystery that was a box-office hit. He also played the father of a murder suspect in the TV serial Defending Jacob (2020). In the animated Lightyear (2022), a spin-off of Pixar’s popular Toy Story series, Evans voiced the character of Buzz Lightyear. Evans is a follower of Buddhism. He is a fan of the New England Patriots, and narrated the documentary series America’s Game: The Story of the 2014 New England Patriots and America’s Game: 2016 Patriots. While filming Gifted in 2015, Evans adopted a dog named Dodger from a local animal shelter. In 2022, he was named the “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine.
On the dating scene, at the beginning of his career, Evans dated Jessica Biel for five years from 2001 – 2006.
