Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, popularly called Tom Hanks is an American actor and filmmaker known for both his comedic and dramatic roles.

Early Life
Born to hospital worker, Janet Marylyn (née Frager) and itinerant cook Amos “Bud” Hanks on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California.
His father had English ancestry, and through his line, Hanks is a distant cousin of President Abraham Lincoln.
Hanks studied theater at Chabot College in Hayward, California, and later transferred to California State University, Sacramento after two years.
Early Career
His breakthrough leading roles came in a series of comedy films that received positive media attention, such as Splash (1984), The Money Pit (1986), Big (1988), and A League of Their Own (1992).
He won two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor in Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Hanks collaborated with film director Steven Spielberg on five films: Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Terminal (2004), Bridge of Spies (2015), and The Post (2017).
He has received numerous honors including the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Kennedy Center Honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the French Legion of Honor, as well as the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Personal Life
Hanks married American actress Samantha Lewes between (1952–2002) 1978. They had one son, actor Colin (born 1977), and one daughter, Elizabeth (born 1982). Hanks and Lewes divorced in 1987. In 2002, Lewes died at the age of 49 from bone cancer.
Hanks married actress Rita Wilson in 1981. They have two sons. The older one, Chester Marlon is a rapper, while their younger, Truman Theodore, was born in 1995.
On July 26, 2020, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanied by his wife, handed over Greek passports to both Hanks and Wilson.
