Former Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure has been shortlisted to be an inductee into the English Premier League (EPL) Hall of Fame.
Gatekeepers News reports that Toure is one of fifteen players nominated by the Premier League as potential Hall of Famers on Thursday.
The list is dominated by players from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool, including Tony Adams, Ashley Cole, Gary Neville, Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Michael Owen, Michael Carrick, Les Ferdinand, John Terry, Petr Cech, Rio Ferdinand, Andrew Cole, Robbie Fowler, and Nemanja Vidic.
Toure will look to emulate Didier Drogba, his Ivorien counterpart and former national team captain, who was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2022.
He joined Man City from Barcelona in a high-profile £24 million deal. Toure played 316 games and scored 79 goals in the process. He won three Premier League titles with the Abu Dhabi-baked club.
The new inductees will be announced on May 3.
Gatekeepers News earlier reported that Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger were recently inducted into the EPL Hall of Fame, making them the first two EPL managers to achieve such a feat.
The EPL Hall of Fame was launched in 2021 as “the highest individual honour awarded to players by the Premier League.”
Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer were the inaugural inductees before David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane, and Frank Lampard completed the “Class of 2021.”
In 2022, Didier Drogba, Sergio Aguero, and Paul Scholes were added to the list alongside Vincent Kompany, Ian Wright, Peter Schmeichel, Wayne Rooney, and Patrick Vieira.
