Early Life
Beyonce was born on September 4, 1981, in Houston, Texas, to Celestine “Tina” Knowles a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager.
Her younger sister, Solange Knowles, is also a singer and a former backup dancer for Destiny’s Child. Solange and Beyoncé are the first sisters to have both had number-one solo albums.
Beyoncé was raised Catholic and attended St. Mary’s Montessori School in Houston. Her singing talent was discovered in a dancing class she enrolled in. In the fall of 1990, Beyoncé enrolled in Parker Elementary School, a music magnet school in Houston, where she would perform with the school’s choir. Beyoncé also attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and later Alief Elsik High School. In 2002, Beyoncé and Jay-Z collaborated on the song “03 Bonnie & Clyde“, which appeared on his seventh album The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse (2002). They got married on April 4, 2008. As of April 2014, the couple had sold a combined 300 million records.
They both have three children together, Blue Ivy (January 7, 2012), and a set of twins a daughter named Rumi and a son named Sir (June 13, 2017).
